The goal of M.I.C. is to help heal the Indigenous communities of Long Island, which include land, people, animal relatives, and all non-human kin. There is good work that has been, and that continues to be done on a grassroots level, but that work is often under-resourced. We seek to uplift and expand upon what is already present within these communities by fortifying the infrastructure that will increase capacity and allow for sustainability in their efforts.
The word Metoac (Meh-toh-wok) refers to the original name of the collective Indigenous communities on Long Island, NY, from Montauk and Orient Point the East End to the western tip of Queens. These communities, subsequently known as the "13 Tribes of Long Island", are both distinct in their Indigenous dialects, histories, and needs while at the same time identifying as Kin, as One People.
Metoac Indigenous Collective, headquartered on the Shinnecock Nation, is born of the work of individuals that are members of several of these communities who have committed to strengthening these ancient ties.
M.I.C. is fiscally sponsored by the Byrd Hoffman Watermill Foundation, a non-profit artist-in-residency organization located in Watermill, Southampton, NY. Through the mechanisms offered by their 501c3 fiscal sponsorship, your donations will be fully tax deductible.

Being a part of the change we would like to see is a huge part of our mission at M.I.C. This often means engaging in community events, sharing knowledge, and assisting and guiding our relatives and neighbors in a gentle way to understand various impacts on Indigenous communities. We offer various services that the M.I.C. staff facilitates directly or matches the work with the appropriate teachers, trainers, artists, etc. from the Indigenous communities of Long Island and abroad.
